Elemental Squadron Nushenger Development Blog - Update 1

Starting this project i decided it was time to brush up my art skills and look for stuff to base the design of this world on.

Since this is a game based on Sentai i decided to start by drawing some of the designs that i like from those various series, as well as a few from its sister series Kamen Rider.

Out of these i feel that i was fairly successful drawing the red ranger from Uchuu Sentai Kyuranger, so i decided that i would try and draw the rest as well as i feel that the designs from that series were very strong.

These weren't as successful but i feel that i at least learned how to go about designing the helmet for my own rangers.

I also wanted to learn some digital art so for my first draft of my red ranger i used a tablet and went into photo shop to sketch out my idea.

I am basing the rangers on the 4 symbols of china where the Red Ranger is the Vermilion Bird of the south, so i had the idea of having the animal that they represent wrap around the helmet and obscure the visor in unique ways for each of the rangers.


There needs to be enemies for the player to fight too, so i have designed a grunt/foot soldier enemy for the player to fight en mass.

These enemies i have based on the terracotta soldiers as i wouldn't be that odd for there to be many of them and have the all look similar if not identical.


I have yet to design the boss of the mission or the level that the player will explore but i have decided that the boss will be based on one of the 12 Chinese zodiac which will be a theme in the full game, and the area of the mission will be based on the Saitama Super Arena, which is location used very frequently by tokusatsu series such as Kamen Rider and Super Sentai which makes it a very fitting location.
